- Established in 1926 as an exporter of chromite ore
- Smelting operations commenced in 1962
- The majority shareholder is Sinosteel Corporation, a State Owned Enterprise of the People’s Republic of China
- Largest integrated ferrochrome producer in Zimbabwe.
- Operational centres located in Kwekwe , Shurugwi , Mutorashanga and Harare .
- Has smelting operations at Kwekwe with installed operational capacity to produce 180,000 t.p.a of high carbon ferrochrome.
- Mining operations are carried out along and alongside the Great Dyke.
- Coalbed methane interests in Matebeleland North.
